December 2024

2024 - It's been a wheely busy year!

Lockers

We currently have 9 bike lockers, and 18 bikes deployed to Abington, Castlebank Park, Auchlochan Retirement Village and Coalburn. Our plans are to roll out a further 5 lockers and 10 bikes to other areas in the New Year so people will be able to hire bikes and explore local cycle routes throughout Lanarkshire.

Led Rides

It's been an exciting few months exploring the Lanarkshire cycle routes generally in the glorious sunshine. We enjoyed trips to Biggar, Abington, Lesmahagow and Wilsontown. We are currently developing a programme of Led Bike Rides for next year.

Support for Schools

Our support for schools has seen us visit Carstairs Junction Primary School where it was fantastic to see some children who initially struggled to pedal become confident enough to compete with their parents.

Cycling Lessons

After trialling our adult cycle lessons, we are working on a programme of cycle lessons for 2025. We are hoping to have these set up for both beginners and intermediate cyclists and for them to run weekly at Lanark Loch.

Support for Asylum Seekers

We were proud to be able to provide our new friend Ayman with an almost new bike and accessory pack. Ayman is currently living in Lanark and has recently been given leave to remain. We hope he enjoys his adventures cycling about our beautiful countryside.

Training

So, our staff and volunteers can teach and lead other cyclists they need to be appropriately trained and qualified. 1 staff member and 1 volunteer have completed Bikeability training, Cycle Trainer and Cycle Ride Leader courses. This will allow both to deliver cycling lessons for children and adults.

Bike Maintenance

We recently delivered our first 4-week Bike Maintenance course where 1 of our staff members and 4 volunteers graduated proudly. They now have the skills to undertake basic maintenance on our fleet. We have more planned for 2025 so if this is something you would be interested in, please get in touch.
